Major projects we're working on

Wellington Electricity continues to invest in our network, undertaking maintenance and upgrade projects to ensure we operate a safe, reliable and resilient network. This includes evaluation of our buildings and their performance if there was a major earthquake.

Outside of routine maintenance, we often have a number of large scale projects underway and we do our best to keep you up-to-date on each project and how it may impact residents and businesses.

The Ridgeway, Farnham Street and Havelock Street 11kV Cable Replacement March - June 2018

From March 2018 to June 2018, Wellington Electricity will be carrying out a cable replacement project along The Ridgeway finishing at the Havelock Street substation. 

The project involves trenching and cable hauling along a prescribed route to install the new electricity cables. There will be disruption to traffic and pedestrian flows during this time but our field crews will employ traffic management to ensure vehicles and residents are guided safely around all work sites.

Blenhiem St to Ward St 11kV Cable Upgrade June 2017 -March 2018

To improve the reliability of the sub transmission network in Upper Hutt, Wellington Electricity along with our major contractors will be working to upgrade the 11kV cable from Blenhiem St to Ward Street. This work is expected to commence in June and will run through till November 2017. There will be disruption to traffic flows during this time but our field crews will have traffic management plans in place to minimise the inconvenience caused to vehicular traffic, pedestrians, students and residents in that area.
